  1. Holding our Representatives Accountable

It's always frustrating when our representatives vote counter to our requests. But who knows, maybe we are simply the minority and representative's vote reflects the majority.

Or maybe our representative's vote is the result of toeing the party line. Or maybe our representative's vote is the result of a recent phone call from major campaign contributor. Or maybe our representative's vote is the result of a recent lunch with their future employers on K street.

The point is, WE DONT KNOW.

Countable, help us hold our representatives accountable. Show us how many people in (let's say) Nevada have asked Sen.…

Great suggestion! I will definitely forward it along for the team to review. Thank you so much for the feedback.

    • Show Corporate Sponsers of Politicians

List all corporate sponsors of each representative. Find a way to see what corporations funded their way to power, and have that information available when you click on a lawmaker.

Great suggestion. There’s actually a browser extension “Greenhouse” offered by allaregreen.us that does exactly this. I will ask the team about potential integration. Thanks -Brittney

      • Add Our Mayors (and more cities!)

When we sign up we are to give our address (ZIP Code included), so what I propose is for the "My Lawmakers" section to also add in not only our Senators and district Representative, but also our Mayor! It brings us one step further to making sure our politicians are paying attention to US!

Great suggestion. The team is working on summarizing legislation for more cities; adding the mayor is a logical next step. Thanks -Brittney

        • Show how each representative voted on a bill

When I'm following a bill through Congress I would like to be notified after a vote and be provided a list of Congressmen that either voted For or Against the Bill so I can either thank or chastise them depending on how I wanted the vote to go. The lists would obviously not be restricted to just my Congressmen but would include all Congressional votes. It would also be nice if you would provide the added ability to send each list of Congressmen feedback emails individually or in bulk with one email message.

Easier to find and follow politicians that are not OUR OWN reps. I haven't been able to find any pathway for that, certainly not an obvious one. Perhaps a button on the home page for 'all politicians'

            • Upcoming bills listed in order of their upcoming votes.

I would like an area that simply lists upcoming upcoming votes in chronological order. This way, I would not miss having my views known to my representatives because a particular bill was not on included in my starred issues list.

The app is rough around the edges, but the concept is wonderful. I look forward to seeing how you grow.

              • Add Criminal Justice to the list of issues

With the violence of police brutality and the fact that America has more of its citizens occupying a prison cell versus a classroom seat. I would like to see if you can add criminal justice as a topic and that we the people stay informed with the changes of that industry.

                • See actual bill proposals being voted on

Hi, love the app right now. Really like how the SF bills are actually props being voted on this year. Would be great for the questions to be labeled with like, "UPCOMING PROPOSAL" or like "PROP A." This would allow people to know more about what they're going to vote for later. So if you read about the housing bond proposal and voted nay, you would want to know that it was Prop A, so when you vote for it in the polls you'll already know what it's about.

                        Great idea.

How do you think we should calculate it?

For example – we could base it on how often you vote like a particular “liberal” or “conservative”.

                        Would that get at it?

Would you like to see it across all of the bills you’ve voted on or just particular issues?

For example "Are you sure this is how you want to vote? Have you reviewed the bill thoroughly?"
I've made the mistake a few times where I accidentally vote the wrong way after further review. Would be a good safeguard.

For example, how many green cards do we issue every year? how many guest worker visas? How many illegal immigrants are here now? how many new ones are coming? How many have already been legalized? What does it cost taxpayers, when the majority are working in low wage jobs which make them eligible for many means tested programs? With stagnant wages, increasing mechanization, and outsourcing-- does it make sense to continue to import foreign job seekers? Please give us facts and numbers!

While Yea and Nay suffices for most of the issues, it'd be great to suggest an alternative course of action without having to vote yea or nay. As an example instead of voting yea or nay you could say other and ask that a government agency that is completely wasteful and unnecessary would be dissolved.

Very interesting idea. We’re looking into adding another type of contribution – other than argument in favor or against. This could fit with that.

                                • Send a weekly or bi-weekly graphs to representatives that summarizes all Countable votes for each bill.

I'm worried that representatives receiving hundreds to thousands of emails everyday from Countable is too fragmented. If emails sent from Countable were reduced and summarized for representatives to easily digest it will make our opinions better heard.

Maybe send a pie chart for each bill, continue sending the individual emails, but also send this pie chart making sure that they see this email is especially different and provides more wholesome information.

                                    Fantastic idea.

Our current plan is to start publishing this information on the website and in the app directly.

Sharing it proactively with Reps is a great idea.

                                  • See bills Introduced or sponsored by My Representatives

I would like to see legislation sponsored and cosponsored by my representatives highlighted somewhere in the app. Love the app!

                                        • Make Bills from Previous Sessions of Congress Less Prominent

I feel that when bills are listed as "previous sessions of congress", those bills should be placed in a special folder to view but not to still be able to vote on. This should free up room for current bills to be viewed. My self I don't want to see the old bills that I can't vote on anymore unless they come up again for a new vote in the new session of congress.
